The birds, the bees, the flowers and the…TREES! How do trees grow? Why do leaves change? What kind of tree is that? The acclaimed Brooklyn Botanic Garden’s guide answers all kids’ (and their parents’) tree-related questions in an easy-to-understand way. It features 33 different trees that grow in North America, from rural Georgia to the streets of New York City to the California suburbs.
We told the kids they could each pick out a tree to plant in our new yard. It’s been a constant string of questions since. Starting with what has the prettiest flowers to what stays green year around, or what kind of fruit trees grow in Texas? Not only are they doing their research with us, but this book has been in constant rotation. The kids have been studying it and then looking up online to see more about a particular type of tree. It’s been fun watching their little minds come alive with excitement to plant a tree of their own.
And this book is beautiful! It’s so well done! It’s done in sketches and not photo graphs, and I love that about it. It’s even spurred a few art projects! It is jam packed with fun trees and facts about them.
